Whiskey’s Shots
(Click ‘em bigger!)
I’ve always loved the look of Second Life photography. It has a distinctive feel. I don’t want my snapshots to look like they could have been taken in the real world- I like shots that look like the virtual world.
Virtual world photography presents a whole host of challenges that are unique to the medium. I’m still very much a beginner, and I’ve only scratched the surface of what can be done with a Second Life camera. But I can appreciate the incredible shots that photographers are taking inworld right now, because I know how much work goes into even the most simple shot.
I don’t use photoshop much. I think so much can be done with windlight and camera angles. Too much photoshopping takes away what I love about inworld shots. And besides, it already takes me eons to take a shot. Photoshop is so daunting and time consuming!
I decided to try my hand at a photo contest, and created this shot for the 2012 Hair Fair, which is coming up. The theme was “Freedom.”

Creating visual pieces is very new for me. But I’m happy doing it. And these days, I’ll take whatever happy I can get.

Fantastic pics. Congrats.
You have the eye I really wish I had. Awesome work.
You are the Björk of in-world photography. And that is a supreme compliment. ♥
What Marx said. And what MrKips said, too. I have pic-taking envy.
Thank you for the statement about “over photoshopping”. Photoshop is overrated and a compeete waste of time and money for genuine photographers. Photshop is a misnomer and should be called CompsoiteShop or GraphicDesignerShopor something.
Absolutely the is a lot that can be done directly in the viewer. And based on this, what you describe about how you do things, you are not a “picture taker”, rather you are a “photographer” because photographers compose their shots for the camera, not relying on cheap tricks like Photoshop.
You are my “target audience”. my new book “Successful Photography with Any Camera” releases July 1, and has a cole chapters dedicated to Secend Life as a “photography simulator”. I’d like to send you an advanced copy if you’re interested (Follow me at Twitter so I can direct message you: @Sir_Winnie) or email me. It’s multi-touch, so it will require an iPad. -wink- I expect to be sending out advanced copies in a week or so.
Good read, thank you.
